It hardly seems as if it can be November already. The weather has been suprisingly warm for this time of year and to be quite honest, I am enjoying it!! But as all of us Coloradoans know the snow will be here soon and the winter season will be upon us.

November is a busy month for swimmers. Girls high school season will begin and club swimmers will have the opportunity to attend a swimmeet almost every weekend.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

As many may know October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, uniting millions to come together in the fight against this terrible disease. The fight against breast cancer is Celebrating 25 Years of awareness, education and empowerment. This dreadful cancer takes the lives of thousands of women each year, but through awareness thousands of lives are saved each year!

The effects of breast cancer have strong emotional, physical and psychological effects on the victims. Many women may feel insecure after having mastectomy surgery, causing emotional distress such as depression, inadequacy and lack of self-confidence. These side effects can be severe, drastically altering women's lifestyle, interests and motivation. But with the help of breast cancer awareness and the millions of generous donations, breast cancer may one day be cured!

Although the subject can be very sad and sometimes discouraging there are hundreds of positive affects that have come due to breast cancer awareness month. Summer is heating up and what better place to be than at the swimming pool!!! Along with fun 4th of July festivities there seems to be some sort of swim event every single weekend in July! Summer season will wind down at the end of the month and as always we will be set up on deck to sell all the swim items you need!

We will be at both the Summer Club State Meet and the Long Course State Meets at the end of the month.

The Long Course State Meet will be at two different venues in Grand Junction. We will have our normal booth set up at Mesa State College, selling caps, goggles, swimsuits and State Apparel. We will have a smaller booth set up at Lincoln Park Pool on Friday the 30th with caps and goggles.

Female FSII Recordbreaker with rubber bumps on chest are now on sale for $59.50, originally $170.00. Fina's new rulings state that any rubber on a suit will be deemed illegal for competition, however, the bumps on the FSII can be removed. The bumps come off easily by simply picking with your finger or with tweezers. It takes roughly 10 to 15 minutes to remove the bumps, but it is well worth the time for the incredible savings!!!

Practices have begun and now it is time to show off your skills at the swim meet!

FINA Rulings

Well the latest news that we have heard is that all suits which contain rubber will be banned from USSA swimming as of January 2010. The ruling includes all Speedo LZR's as well as any suit that extends past the knee or has a zipper in the back. Men are allowed to wear a brief or a jammer. Women are allowed to wear a record breaker back 1 piece either to the knee or with no leg. As of right now we are not sure if this ruling will in fact stand, but it seems pretty certain. What will this do to the sport of swimming. Some parents and athletes have voiced their frustrations as well as concerns, while others seem happy about the new rulings. As a retail store we just want what is best for the consumer. Many stores are out to earn the highest dollar, but as many of you may already know MI Sports is more concerned about being open, honest and helpful to our customers. While we are unable to return any of these "banned" suits we genuinely hope to see this matter get resolved and to move forward.
